This is the Block House, a scenic lookout originally made of left-over (and already at that time antique) timber in the Great Depression. It was burned to the ground by kids in 1962 and rebuilt, only to be set on fire several more times by arsonists.
The photos show it refinished in recent years, albeit there is severe fire-damage in one part where the hole is covered over with a thick, wide board.
One can clearly the lake and state park from the small windows, which mimic a frontier fort.
We only visited for a short time today here in my town of Muskegon, but we had lots of fun with my dog and taking pictures of people taking pictures.
Looks like a lovely place SpiritBear!!
This is a beautiful building.
Some members of the human race don't deserve a place on this grand old Earth. :-|
Tassie Devil, it really is. Right by the lake.
Efesgirl, in a way none of us do. Read the last half (or all) of this post, for it pertains to most people of the World. There are varying degrees of severity (in human minds), but it is all the same in the end because it all leads to the same things. Bad is bad. We're all guilty of it.
