Any ideas what this is?

Trying to figure out what this piece is. It was rescued from the trash. It kinda resembles a pot cupboard. It is made of wood with a metal grate in the front. There is intricate flower carvings on the sides. At the bottom left, there is a metal wind up key similar to that on a gas fireplace that turns a metal blade inside. The only thing I could come up with is that maybe its made to go over a floor vent and theblade directs air/heat? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
