My husband bought this antique radio at a client's estate sale 30 years ago.
He paid $90.00 for it. Does anyone know if the radio is worth more than that today? We found the Charles E. Chapin Co. ear phones inside the radio. I couldn't find any information on the Chapin company. I put my iPhone ear pieces next to the old ones. We've come a long way, haven't we?

I just googled it and found info on it. I believe it is out of the twenties.

Could you provide a link for the Chapin CO, officialfuel? I still can't locate it.
      Thanks.

I put in Atwater Kent Radios and click images. Maybe I have misunderstood what you are asking, my apology.

No apology needed. I changed my wording a bit. Thanks!

I have a feeling that these two did not come together but were 'married' at some later date, all I can find is that Chapin s co. did make a radio in 1927......pretty skinny info but I think someone used the head set on this one...here is my source about the radio: (www.radiomuseum.org/?firmaindex.cfm?id=3&mp%3Bmp%3B... - Cached

The Atwater Kent Model 40 is an early A/C powered radio, made in 1928. It was commonly paired with the A-K Type "E" speaker, with its huge 16" diameter cone, although a horn could also be used, or headphones. A-K 40's are very common - a lot of them were made. The horn speaker itself is probably worth more than the radio, by at least double (the radio, if in good shape and working, might go for around $50-$75, although an EBay bidding frenzy might take it higher). Just the economy - antique radio prices are at a low right now, except for perhaps certain rare and highly collectible models.

By the way, this set is a Model 20, from about 1925, and was designed to run on batteries. The Model 40 (made in 1928) has only two dials - the tuning dial, on the left, and the volume control, on the right. In the model 20, each of the three tuning dials had to be tuned to the same frequency (which did not necessarily mean to the same number on the dial!). The model 40 had a metal case with a dark brown wrinkle finish with gold accents.
