Pencil-nec…
(104 items)
We've had this shuttle (for lack of a better term) sitting around for years hoping to find out exactly what it is for. Anyone have an idea?
It is celluloid and has about 10 feet of light string on it - which seems pretty lightweight for net mending, but there you are.
I'm not having much luck finding the operating dates for the Watson Distillery, but this item appears to be early 20th Cent. They did have a ginormous fire at their wareh0use in about 1906 that sent thousands of barrels of whiskey either up in smoke or down drains, causing a widespread depression amongst whiskey drinkers in Dundee.
Anyway, anyone know what to call this thingamajig?
I do believe this is a bowls measure.......for measuring distances between the bowls in the game of lawn bowls.....
A fire starter ? LOL !!
Thanks TassieDevil ! Brewers and distillers used them as advertising pieces . Great education to be had here .
Thanks for the education, Tassie - since lawn bowls isn't played much here in the USofA, I'm not sure I would have ever figured that out!
You are both welcome SlackJack and Pencil......luckily I have a husband who knew what it was when he bought one for us!!!
There sure are some interesting old gadgets out there!!!!
