I bought this in north shore Sydney at a sale for $10. The only reason was for the brass foil harbour bridge plate which was held on with six small bifurcated rivets. I took the 2nd two pics just before dismantling the whole piece for scrap. The brass logo with the picture of a burning volcano, two handles and feet I'm keeping also.
Halfway through I had to don a mask and douse with water the friable asbestos pads behind the front mounting bolts, insidious stuff!
First pic is the end result of my efforts, steamships under the bridge!! I thought it may have been copper but the back has retained the yellow of brass.
The Hecla company was named after the volcano eruption in Iceland in 1918.
Museum Victoria has a page dedicated to the company and there is a photo of the same model, Riveting reading!!
