My Dad supposedly made this in the machine shop aboard a Floating Drydock where he was stationed in the South Pacific. The material is said to be from a Jap Zero Propeller. It appears to be Magnesium Type Metal Alloy. Has anyone ever seen one of these?

This design ashtray is not uncommon "trench art", but the sailing ship is different. Plane is a P-38 Lightning.

Unusual to see the female form holding the plane, that is a first for me !

      Great piece of trench art!

The female holding the plane is actually found with some regularity with pieces made in Italy.

I have several similar posted-- take a look at my postings, if you'd like to see them. Here is the Italian piece mentioned above:

It is great that you have a family piece and know the maker. Be sure to document it for future generations, so the history is not lost.

Thanks. Don't know for sure that he made it, but that is the story. It appears to be cast metal, so somewhere there had to have been a mold, and there should be others just like it. I would love to know how many were made. I have never seen another like it.
