My father has had this bottle for at least 45 years and he thinks it is one that he recovered from my great-grandmother's old farm after she moved to a smaller home back in the 1970's. There is no label and no writing on the bottle at all. It looks dark brown or even black, but when you hold it up so the light passes through it you can see it is a deep, dark green. It has one of those inverted bottoms and it looks like the bottom half and top half were possibly made separately then put together. It is approximately 8 inches tall. Anyone have any idea about it? Beer, soda, medicine??
A "utilitarian" bottle likely imported from Britain. Likely for ale/beer. Top looks applied. Bottle looks like it's maybe pontiled. Pre-1910 3-part mould, which gives the horizontal seam on the shoulder (I'm assuming that's what you mean.)
I'd think circa 1860s.
Thank you! I've looked on eBay for similar bottles and found several for sale, but they are all described so differently its hard to tell what I have.
