So okay my jewelry palsy-walsies, here's a fun one for ya. My entire collection of cameos, which amount in value to hardly anything, but they are sort of cool to look at, and considering I didn't set out to collect them, these are more than I even knew I owned, except that as I am going through inventorying my hoard, noticed there were enough to pull together for a group shot.
Probably the most interesting are the two in the last photo. The blue and white one shows a woman driving a chariot in front of what appears to be the Parthenon or some other Greek temple. With this amount of art, design, detail and quality production put into the piece, surprising that it's just a cheap hard plastic brooch. The other brooch has a setting that could be steel or some other heavy metal and the brooch appears to be carved though I can't tell what the material is, the profile feels buttery smooth, not glass, not plastic, not stone. It has a modern clasp. Any ideas on that one, feel free to share.
I hope you enjoyed seeing these. Thanks for looking.
The one bottom center is very nice - set in silver.
Thanks for the love, brunswick, NevadaBlades, Manikin, blunderbuss2, martika, beyemvey, mikelv85, and Efesgirl. :)
Thanks, Bonnie, that is a Jezlaine cameo, just resin set into sterling silver, and not very well mounted, I might add, doesn't fit the shape exactly and you can see the glue around the edges, I actually thought they weren't an original match but there are more such I've seen, so not impressive quality in terms of that aspect, but the setting is superb.
Thanks for the love, aura, vetraio50, and jscott0363. :)
About the value of my cameos too Katherine, but yours are much nicer.
I think a dog chewed some of mine...
I really like the blue/white one! Not sure about the ring - when does OTT mean tacky, and when is it satire?
Lovely interesting group!
The material you are asking about could be Incolay composite (don't know what it's called in other countries. Google Incolay Cameo Brooch to see some examples.
Thanks for the love, TassieDevil, racer4four, kyratango, and valentino97. :)
Karen, I'll have to search your page for cameos, but even without seeing them, I know they have to be splendid. The dog has good taste! :) As for the blue/white, it is interesting, isn't it? The ring is def in the tacky range, lol. ;))
Thanks, kyratango, not bad for an unintentional collection. :)
Davy, you are always so kind, and generous with your knowledge, thank you, I will look up Incolay composite, and the brooches, as you suggest. :)
