Hello there, I am looking for some help/information regarding this piece. I know very little about silver etc, I can not see any markings or hallmarks so how do I know if it is silver or not? Does anyone know exactly what it was used for? How old it is etc? many thanks, any help appreciated!!
QUALITY WORK !!!
Smell it. If it is plated you should be able to smell the nickel.
Silver has a much more 'neutral' smell.
And then there are the chemical tests to verify.
The work on the bottom of the piece has all the traits of England ... so I'd vote for Anglo-Indian. Just an opinion.
Thank you vetraio50, I have just smelt it and there is no odour from it. I don't have any acids to test it. I have had a look at other methods, but I'm just not "certain".I am 90% sure it's silver! Ok thank you for that, I am unsure, the only reason I presumed Indian/Burmese was because I found a similar teapot online with the same design which was described as that. But I really don't know much in this area so I welcome any suggestions! Thank you!
Lovely thing, great shape and I love all those elephants, lion and deer running round the bowl ...
I used to go to school in Anglesey many years ago...:-)
