Help me identify?

I recently picked up this chair.

It looks like a simple design, but has these neat embellished carved lines (almost like pin-striping, but I don't know the furniture term). It also has a very faded stencil in red of what looks like a sideways shell.

Any ideas regarding its type, age, worth would be appreciated!
