I have an exceptionally fine pastel crayon on black velvet. Normally these painting if executed by an accomplished artist, it will still lack detail due to the short time undertaken to ensure it sells cheaply.
I have never seen such a well executed velvet artwork and I wonder if anyone know the artist? The signature I enclose looks like VPPO or VRPO
This was purchased in South London and I purchased it as one of my brothers first jobs was selling Velvet paintings, apparently a Vietnamese Artist in Chiswick was churning them out and my brother would join a van load of other hopeful salesmen and meet at a designated area, jump into an old van and hit a new London location in the early evenings. My brother tried it for several weeks and never sold one, he met a lovely African called Dallas who was a diplomats son, who was the best salesman - he managed to sell 9 paintings in one night. My brother would try to sell them for £5 each which in the early 1970's was a lot of money.
If anyone has any other works by this artist could they please let me know, certainly worth collecting.
