We got this very cool Spur porcelain sign from a good Friend in Joplin Mo, who got it from a Collection in Tenn that he and a friend bought out. Spur was a Texas gas/oil Co in the early 60s and had a great logo! We think it looks great out in front of the Free Museum at aaaLakeside Storage in Provo Ut. The last pix shows it from the street out in front. Come take a look for yourself!

The sign gun is actually two SSP signs placed back to back in a single ring, as several other Sign companies did, like Frontier, Imperial, Fina, Sunoco. Still not sure why they did it that way as it seems like a lot more work and money to me?

Thx for the history. I love hearing the history of each of these gas/oil companies before they got eaten by the bigger fish. This is such a cool logo and I'm surprised with so many gas stations there aren't more of the big signs floating around? This is the only one like it I've ever seen.

      Lee120275,
Actually the guy who sold us this sign really doesn't have much of a collection left as he has sold most of it. The sign in the pix is at our Collection & only a small part is visible in this pix

I would love to see pictures of some of the Spur stuff you have.

      Trey,
I still can't believe how few readers of CW love the cool porcelain signs we post? These signs are rare, expensive and very very cool & to only see less than a dozen loves seems weird to me.

Thx for the love it. Few people love this cool sign for some unknown reason? I love it or wouldn't have bought it

      Nicefice,
Thx for the info. I never saw another one but there must be a lot out there as they had a lot of stations at one time. This sign was owned by a collector in Tenn who never got it out up before he finally sold his entire collection to a mutual friend in Joplin Mo. We got it from the collector in Joplin & feel really lucky to have found it. Great graffics and unusual pole.

We are currently on a trip in New Zealand and, like America, e erroneous wants to charge you to see the smallest of collections of any kind. They wanted to charge us $30 to see a Castle that was alr day closed for visiting to take a pix of the outside! I hat that! Free lets everyone enjoy

      Nicefice,
Wish I had a couple of those pump plates to put on a pump below the Spur sign. :):) they look awesome on the pumps in the pix! We are currently on a trip in Australia and I have seen very little of antique gas pumps/porcelain signs since being here. I did meet a guy who says he has a couple of big Texaco signs but they're not for sale. Thx again for putting me on to the Spur ad.

Rattletrap....I attached a link to keep you informed about Spur (Murphy Oil) who sold to Calumet who in now is selling it to Husky Energy out of Canada. I guess the Refinery will replace the Calumet logo on their storage and process tanks to a big Husky dog :) Take care....you have awesome posts! Later....
