Can anyone identify who the maker of this neat little level is? Measures 9" long and 1" tall. Quite heavy for its size. Not sure what kind of wood was used but it is very dark, almost black. The only markings I can find are a few stampings that read what appears to be "Standing" stamped into the brass on top and on the top edges in four places. I am guessing this is someones name or identification stamp? also stamped into the wood on the side are the letters JRS. Very well made, quality level, I am guessing it would come from the mid to late 1800's era?
