i have aquired a lot of items and furniture that i would like information on.
some is very old, some may be more modern and just build very well.
I would appreciate any expert guesses on age and estimated value. thank you so much.
Hi,
What you have is the movement to a mid-19th century (around 1850-1870, I would think) French comptoise clock, which is basically a grandfather clock. They were typically produced in the Jura region of France. You are missing the clock's case, and although it is hard to tell from the photo, it also appears to lack it's two cast iron weights. While I believe we can't discuss values here, you certainly have a rather valuable clock. Getting the parts it needs (especially the weights, which are essential), would help it.
Regards.
thank you. that is more help and explanation than i could have expected. much appreciated
I know its been a while since i posted this, but i had to revisit to say thank you again. i do believe i found the weights that go with it. they are just heavy sausage link looking gold colored weights. i am hoping that these are the weights to it. It is the only gold clock i have in this collection.
