Several pieces of Sewer Pipe Folk Art Pottery which were made by the workers at the end of the day in pipe factories in the Midwest and Northeast. Left over clay was used to make whimsical items for the kids, or frequently caricatures of the boss or co-workers. Molds were used for more common pieces (lions, dogs) but the ones formed or embellished by hand are the most interesting. The Sewer Tile factories were most active from 1890 to 1950 or so. The pieces here are from the Jim Linderman collection, and there is a new blog devoted to documenting one of the last true folk art forms at the following link: http://sewertilepottery.blogspot.com/
