I picked this little ring up at Volunteer's of America as a birthday gift to myself on Monday. It was very brassy and dark when I bought it but it fit my little finger fairly well. When I got it home a bit of TLC with the jeweler's cloth brought back it's shiny gold finish. The band is marked "10K" -Gold Filled- with the "U" and Arrow mark used by Uncas Mfg. Co. since 1922 and through 1988. Very surprised there is almost no wear to the gold layer on this thin band and the silver accents provide a nice contrast. Gold filled is a much thicker fused layer so it will often last long after plated gold is gone. About 5-to 30 years or longer if not worn everyday and this ring seems much older. Not sure what the center intaglio is carved on. Probably glass or onyx as it has four facets to the back side. However the front appears wore and dull. Uncas is still in business making sterling and high end fine costume jewelry out of Providence Rhode Island and is considered quite collectible. I think this ring is fairly early probably the 1930's to 40's in design. -Mike-
