Just acquired for restoration, this little Deco style mantle clock has raised numerals and is fully intact. Nice musical gong, strikes the hour and once on the half. Keeping near perfect time. they knew how to build a good clock in the '30's and '40's. Dated to 1937. Two pictures added; Case refinished, no veneer removed (sanding avoided) in the process, three coats of Scandinavian Oil (I like the durability and look of this particular varnish, better grain clarity. I get better results than french polishing). Last photo added; the clock movement, fully serviced.
Oh, that's a really fantastic looking clock. Great find!
Thanks, it'll keep me busy for a bit
I love hearing the chimes on these!!
I'll record and post a brief chime clip, i just have a few things to do to it first :)
Love the clock! Good luck with the restoration!
Thank you pops
Ohh truly beautiful, is it a double chimer? I have one almost identical, workings made in France. The chimes just started making shuddering noises so I am having someone look at it, the cost will be $650.00 I was stunned but this clock was my Great Grandmothers and I really want to hear those melodic chimes again. Sadly the face was changed to a plain white 3 years ago when a friend "restored it for me . he meant well and it was in pieces when I inherited it from my Dad in 2013. Comments on the cost of repairs would be welcome. V
Hi Victoriarose, It's not a Westminster, but does have a fairly melodic gong, once on the half hour and it chimes the hour. That cost sounds fairly reasonable to me, only because I carry out those repairs myself and it's labour intensive. Not difficult, just takes time. With Westminster chimes, the cam can become loose with age and that can cause the 'shuddering' effect. It's unfortunate when intrinsic parts of the clock, like the face, are altered, but it is as it is and can be made to work perfectly and be as beautiful as you wish. i wouldn't mind seeing a picture of your clock, if you have the time.
This clock, like most available here, is made in Germany, usually pre: WW2.
For TassieDevil, the clock chimes 12; https://www.facebook.com/paul.brennan.3152/videos/vb.1311531493/10211044500771060/?type=2&theater¬if_t=video_processed¬if_id=1478264759842459
Magician, thanks for trying to put the chimes up.......facebook would not let me access the content at all!! That's ok though as I was going to tell you that we have an Urgo clock with Westminster chimes.....it is great!! Very much in the style of your art dec0 clocks. Will see if I can post it later today.
Sorry about that, give it another go, my security settings stopped you (forgot about them) Now it's a public video. Would love to see a picture of your Westminster.
Sorry Magician......still can't get to the link!! I have just posted my clock now!!
