I went to visit Malva this morning and decided to stop in a local thrift shop on the way home. In one of the glass cabinets was this little resin container. Some dingleberry stuck the price tag directly over the silver foil label, so it came away when I removed the sticker. Wasn't possible to rescue it. I expect it said "Made In.....".
I made an Image search but did not find one like him. Since the stopper is cork rather than plastic, I would imagine this is mid-century or earlier.
I did take a whiff and noticed it has a sort of perfumey scent, but it seems like a strange sort of "packaging" for perfume.

Looking for enlightenment on my guy!

Thanks to all who come by.
    Bonnie

He's wonderful Bonnie...sorry I can't help with the ID but Japan seems reasonable. I had the same sticker misfortune myself . One time I even soaked it with Goo Gone first to loosen the glue and it still took the gilding off a perfect green Bohemian enamel vase's foot. Left a nice square in the gilding. They couldn't just put it on the plain glass bottom. Wrapping gilded lidded pieces with packing tape is another big no-no but they do it anyway despite my warnings to the cashiers. Cretan's ....lol.

Mike - Aww, that's a shame. What a bunch of lazy, careless louts. I really could just smack some people! "Sticker abuse" is a regular occurrence in another shop I frequent (the one where I found that 14K white gold rope necklace). They put price stickers over every marking whenever possible. People peel back the label so they can see the backstamps on porcelain. I want to know what I'm considering buying!

      Possibly a snuff bottle?

karen - I wondered that, too. I put an exploratory toothpick inside and found some "squishy" stuff similar to that green stuff used to keep artificial flowers in place. Nothing came out when I turned the bottle upside down and tapped it on the table. The scent is very minimal.

      So, there ya go.
