Can ANYONE help me by telling me exactly what I paid $3.99 for at the thrift store? Little antique burled walnut box is stamped "Made In France" on bottom. Box top rises and front falls forward to reveal two small Chanel perfume bottles, No.5 and Gardenia. Inside box lid is "Chanel" and interior of box is lined with a faded velvet. I can't find any examples online. How old is this and is it worth more than $3.99?? Thanks SO MUCH!!
Of course it is worth more than that! A beautiful box, made to fit the perfume bottles (themselves collectible), and an iconic brand. It is fantastic, and I would think rare.
I have not found anything either about this box but looking at the bottle labels and the wax around the lid I think this dates to before WW2, and possibly even to earlier than that. No. 5 and Gardenia were both released in the 1920s.
This may be a valuable set.
I would consider contacting Chanel directly to see if they have any record of this set.
OMG!!! How fabulous is this!!!
This is really a great find!!! This is the closest thing I could scare up:

I think this link is better:

It seems to be an instant display case also, good find !
I love hearing stories of finding really good things for next-to-nothing prices. Good work!
