I bought this bottle because I liked the carving and because it's unusual to find snuff bottles made of wood.
There isn't a lot of information about wood bottles, and it isn't known why the Chinese made so few of them. When you do see them they are made of bamboo or gourd or rarer out of boxwood or burl.
I don't know what kind of wood this is, but the grain is very fine and not obvious. I "think" it's made of bamboo but will have to do more research to know for sure.
I also can't tell if the wood was stained or if the wood has darker and lighter regions.
The bottle is in very good shape which leads me to believe that it's not very old, but then again the quality of the carving seems pretty good.
The hollowing follows a triangle pattern and goes to about three fourths of the way down the bottle, so not well hollowed, but hollowed enough for use.
It measures 6.9cm tall.
