Second posting of this oil portrait signed Irwin D Hoffman 1956 with new information! Irwin Hoffman lived in the same building (1940 census in NYC) as Andrew Karoly and Lajos P "Louis" Szanto, prominent mural artists. I have been trying to identify the subject of this painting; I think it might be Louis Szanto (1889-1965 ... birthdate varies but mostly seen as 1889). Image 1 is the oil painting I have. Image 2 is from a subscription art data website called artworkdatabase.com found as lajos-szanto.artworkdatabase.com The claim is that this is a sketch image of Szanto as a young artist. I need a confirmation/ documentation on that; I don't know if more info is in the website as it is a subscription website. Image 3 is Szanto (documented) in a cropped enlarged photo doing a mural for the 1939 World's Fair. Image 4 is another pose of Szanto doing the World's Fair mural. COMPARING Images 2, 3, 4 with the Hoffman portrait of a mature gentleman ... IS THIS THE SAME GUY? Account for aging. Anyone know how to do forensic computer comparison imaging? Also ... can anyone find other images of Szanto??? THANKS FOR READING! We'll see if the portrait turns out to be Louis P Szanto!
