Antique doll with papier mache head, fabric body filled with wood wool, 12 inches tall, no markings, and still in good condition. Arms and legs are attached with screws/pins etc. I would like to know from what era it comes from, who made it, and any other interesting facts. Thanks!
Hi no she is not a Lenci which are all felt including face but a Italian made doll that resembles Lenci , her head is made of paper mache or some type of plastic hard to tell by photo and body is not right for Lenci. It is interesting she is wearing a high quality dress like Lenci made and I wonder if it is original to her . Dates around 1930 I would say and is a very nice doll and to be exact on maker would be hard since she is not signed and many companies tried to jump on the craze for Lenci dolls in Italy and also France did a version of a look a like . All look a likes have felt faces and bodies like Lenci used so yours would just resemble one not be a look a like .
I have no idea what type of repair they did on her it appears she has had her head removed at one time or it fell off .
Thanks so much for your input. I don't know anything at all about dolls, so I'm very interested on any thoughts you have on her. Yeah, her head is connected by cords, it can turn and it wobbles but it is very much fastened on.
I can't tell you anything about the dress. She was wearing it when I got her a few weeks ago. Found her at a rummage sale and thought she was interesting.
It appears it is her dress and she is wonderful find . You did good just not a Lenci :-)
