I bought this Tonka Dump Truck in Tucson back in 2011. It started me on me on collecting the pressed steel vehicles but they do take up a lot of space so I stopped at four. That and they tend to be very expensive as I have been avoiding buying online. I like the hunt of seeing what I can find.
Back to the truck it is an interesting vehicle with great play value. It is cleverly designed with one switch to raise the dump bed and another to open the tail gate. Rather ergonomic as the levers are in the same place. And thoughtful as the latch for the tailgate keeps the tail gate closed so that the load of dirt or sand from the back yard doesn't leak out as it is being pushed about. A small thing but this is why toys of the 1960s are the best.
Nice one!!! Wish I had all of my pressed steel Tonka toys from when I was a kid. Mother sold them all in a yard sales many years ago along with our 1970 G.I. Joe action figures and all of our G.I. Joe vehicles and gear. I'm certain that she never considered that they would all be collector items one day.
Thank you very much jscott0363. Rather unfortunate thing your mother did there. All my Tonkas were thrown out I think when we moved in the early 70s.
The GI Joes are still around though.
Thank you very much brunswick. I believe those were part of the Mighty Tonka line.
