Black and White Jadeite Conjoined Snuff Bottle

Snuff apparently came in different "flavors." And so double, triple, and other variations of multiple bottles were made so the snuff taker could carry different flavors of snuff.

This is my first double bottle. I haven't really paid much attention to them before but when this one came up for auction I fell in love with it.

The pictures don't show it, but the bottle came with a custom stand and unfortunately the bottles were pretty much glued to that base. I got out the fingernail polish remover and used a small paint brush to gently remove the bottle because I wanted to see the base. I wasn't really expecting a raised base. Because the bottles are so plain I thought the base might be flat. Fortunately I didn't damage the stand or the bottle. It just took some patience.

The bottles are well hollowed and have their original matching stoppers.

But it was the material itself that drew me to the bottle. Finding such a large piece of well defined black and white jadeite was what really made the bottle irresistable to me.
