What I have here appears to be a cast iron Hammer Head. It is about 5" long and about 2" across the face. On one end there is a raised 25 and on the other is a N in a circle. My guess is that it may for stamping kegs or barrels? But what would the N represent? The 25 may be gallons? Has any one ever seen one?

This looks like a log-marking hammer. When logs were transported by floating them down rivers to designated pick-up points the loggers would smack the end of each log with a hammer like this to mark their identification on it. After they were hauled out of the river (the logs, not the loggers) the various owners could be identified.

Thanks UncleRon, I googled log marking hammer and did see many similar hammers, but didn't see any double headed with two different stamps. It is definitely
a marking hammer of some sort.
