I have always loved cobalt glass, and I have also always loved feathered glass. Iridescent glass is at the top of my list. In this vase, Rindskopf managed to incorporate all three of my favorite stylistic cues into a single object! (you can click the pictures for a larger view)
The vase stands 12.5" tall and is about 5" in diameter at the widest. Colorful feathers are pulled through the deep cobalt blue base glass. The pontil is polished and the rim is ground. The walls are thick and the vase is very heavy. The shape is very modernistic considering that it is a hundred or so years old. Best of all, the surface shimmers in an iridescent rainbow of color. c. 1900-1915. I searched a long time for one of these... so glad I found it!
Thanks Poire!
So! can understand why..it's beauuuutiful!!!...:-)
Thank you inky :-) for the kind thoughts - Cheers! - Bob

When I saw that first glanced at that first photo I thought there was a twist in the glass, lovely..and that base..wow!!..Penny....:-)
Oops!.. sorry...a bit muddled there..if it was 9.30pm..I would blame the glass of red wine...but! since it's 9.30am.. I can't ...:-/
That's OK Inky - it is 9:30 PM somewhere :-)

Thank you Alfredo, not only for the love of some of my posts, but for being so instrumental in helping to identify Rindskopf glass over the many years of your experience.

Oh, I just saw this one! This shape is so distinctively Rindskopf, and the blue is just beautiful. I think it is one of my favorite colors in glass; it just wasn't used that much then, was it?
The bottom is almost ceramic like and is concave, so it doesn't show much wear except around the perimeter. I keep it in the cabinet on a shelf made of glass. A bit of a smudge imperfection in one area of the iridescence. The rim has about a 1mm flea bite on the inside surface, otherwise perfect. As you know, these are pretty competitively sought, so I'm happy despite the minor flaws, & glad a connoisseur such as you likes it. It is very photogenic & smiled for the camera :-) Cheers! - Bob
I can tell it was smiling, Bob! :) I did, too, when I saw it!
