Found this in a shed. There are no visible attachment points. It is a bout 2' long and not the right angle to be carried over the shoulder with something hanging from it. It is to thick 2" on the non jagged side to be a throwing stick. SO, what is it.
Help Please!
This is called a "gambling stick." it is used in butchering. They come in many different sizes depending on the type of animal to be butchered - from rabbits to sheep. Most that I have seen (hundreds) are between 24" and 36". After the animal is killed the hind legs are pierced at the "ankle" joint and the stick is inserted through the holes (hence the various notches to allow for size) and the carcass is hoisted with a rope attached to a tree limb or tripod, etc. allowing the farmer to manipulate it for removing the hide and dismembering it.
Ron thanks, I've seen them in metal but the first time in wood.
