    We bought this sight unseen at an online auction. We liked the carvings and the rustic nature. It was advertised as hand carved with cast iron fittings. Chest size is 25 1/4W x 13D x 16H. We are unsure of anything else; wood, age, origin or use.

      looks like a new piece made to look old. I do not see any carvings, most likely made in Asia....China or India for the export market.

      While it is an interesting chest, I agree that it's almost definitely a new or fairly new item made to look old. Many types of these are being made in India and Asian countries, using the same style of hinges and locks and then stained and made to appear somewhat old. I've been dealing in antique chests and trunks for many years so I've seen many similar items in the last few years.
