The "fantasia" decor was produced mostly in the 1930s and 1940s in the Tonala and Tlaquepaque area of Mexico. It is a decor featuring exaggerated depictions of plants and animals, sometimes in gaudy color combinations.
The first plate shown is a 10 1/2" diameter glazed earthenware from the 1930s. Reverse side has a hand-drawn "MEXICO" but no signature.
The second plate is 13 1/2" in diameter. It has an opaque painted decor on a terra cotta form. Also unsigned, this platter dates from the 1990s.

Yes, I think it's more on the rare side to see them in the one color! Gaudy is the word but they make great art objects.
