This WWII Czechoslovakian bayonet possibly used by Germany in WWII. I believe this is the vz.23. The blade on this is made so that the cutting edge is pointing up. I have one other bayonet like this. It seems this was popular in Germany.
Aside from the missing piece that would lock it into the rifle it has a 2 other problems that call for tar and feathers.
#1 is that it has been sharpened improperly. probably on a grinder. Only a tiny bit of the blade should be sharpened. Less than a 1/8th inch area along the edge area of the blade. This is sharpened all the way to the fuller (the blood groove and don't call it that).
#2 is that the bayonet lug has been removed. Not only did they ruin a vintage piece I see no reason for doing that. It acts as a hand guard.
Luckily it was free plus it came with the frog (leather piece to hold it to the belt). I gave the frog to another bayonet to be posted later.
Very cool piece! Can you imagine that coming at you with full force? Yikes!!!!!!
Thank you very much Scott. It would be a bit unnerving.
Thank you
