Unusual manganese glazed vase have no clue of the maker any help would be great . About 8 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches across. I found at a recent auction, I liked how the glaze looked. I think its a older piece by how it looks.

1930s vintage Peters & Reed shape with a glaze that probably puts it somewhere in the variable "Landsun" line.

I am not sure its Peters and Reed Most of the glazes I have found for Peter & Reed has been matte or semi gloss. Do you have example of the vase shape or glaze? I could not find it I looked at a lot of Pic and thru some books I have. Also I think Peter and Reed was change to the ZANE pottery Co in 1921 and pieces were marked Zane Pottery after that date.

While it is true that P&R changed their name to Zane in 1921, very few collectors make any differentiation between the products. They were still the same company and continued in business until 1941. It is rare to find a marked example of either.

This may be from the "Landsun" line or it may be from the "Shadow Ware" line. Both lines were high gloss (as were many other P&R lines) and are highly variable.

This shape can be found in the P&R catalog page for the 1930s "Velton Ware" line shown on page 121 of Sanford's Guide to Peters & Reed.

Wouldn't P&R be red clay, or red clay with a white englobe? Clay appears buff in the pic. I looked at pg 121 in the Sanford's text, found very similar forms, but didn't see the exact form. However, that may just be due to random differences in turned/cast ware shapes over time.

You are not seeing clay but ground down glaze on the bottom of the pot.
    7. artfoot artfoot, 8 years ago
      and/or ground down kiln stands.
    8. grendel67, 8 years ago
No I believe its the clay color not kiln stands. the bottom has not been ground the spots are were the drips of glaze was and broke off when removed from the kiln.same marks you see on flambe glazed oriental pieces
