Got these from an estate sale and curious about the top sword because it's overall length in 47 inches and Katana swords are only 40 inches and more plain then this one with all the carved lead fittings. Is this some kind of a military dress sword reproduction? The bottom sword is Chinese Dao with gold engraving on the blade that says Qianlong period which I'm told is a reproduction throw in the garbage sword. Just objects for display to me and "no clue" how to swing one or take it apart. Is the top sword a mass produced dollar store sword that you have seen a thousand times, or unknown? Blade is 32 inches or 81 cm long.

Watched multiple YouTube videos on taking apart katana swords and they all had two bamboo pegs and tapped their arm while holding the sword. This sword only has one bamboo peg and searched but no second peg. The one peg didn't just fall out when tapped with a punch and tiny hammer it took some effort to get it out, went back in easy. No way does it come apart tapping my arm. Banged, pulled, twisted, shook, and all it did was get tighter. Looked into the peg hole and it's black where the tang metal goes through the wood. Think it's patina stuck. Also noticed the stingray skin under the silk has some shrinkage in areas; is that normal? This blade has no play and is extremely tight and refuses to cooperate with taking it apart. Don't want to damage it so I put the "one" peg back in the hole.

I'm no expert on these, but the construction of the blade caught my attention & I think it may be something special. Just an opinion, but get it checked out & please let us know what you find out. I've worked steels before & the high temper toward the edge & lower temper on the spine, is what you want to see.

Would check it out but live in a small boarder town to a military base that trains military pilots and limited to pretty much retired military pilots businesses. It's a two hour drive to any major city. Just an old sword that's stuck from never being cleaned. Back on the wall for another 20 years?
