1) Is it American? Any more information? I love this piece and would love to have the story behind it. Based on my research it seems to be American Federal period or right after where there was a heavy french influence. The carvings of the artist pallete and compass measuring tools make seem to have Enlightenment influence?
*Carved with Gryphons, Artist Palette, and Compass Tool. (See pic)
*English Dovetail (3 tails)
*Original Drawer Locks, half mortise with stamp of an anchor emblem with *HD initials and "Paris" written above (you can see the stamp just barely if you zoom on the lock picture)
*Bottom left drawer has locked compartment in the back. Basically the drawer is the length of the desk and has a false end (that is the drawer in the picture above to see how the mechanics word).
*Top of Desk & Inside of drawers have wood veneer
*the bottom part of the drawers slide in and is curved underneath
*pulls not original, there is a keyhole where the pulls are inserted
*Underneath desk can see panels of a red wood that is very porous with numerous knots
*Veneer on top of desk and inside drawers
