This is my latest addition to my growing collection of Mexican jewelry. It has the old eagle mark on the back. The cross is well made but the "amethyst" seems to be made of glass or plastic.
It has also a lovely chain.
I have not cleaned it because I think it looks just great the way it is.
Thanks for looking:)
That is gorgeous! It would be unusual for Taxco jewelry to contain synthetic stones.

Unusual yes, but not unheard of: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/184089-vintage-mexican-brooch-with-eagle-mark
Thanks so much for your comment, Efesgirl:)
Many thanks, JImam and kyratango:)
If the stone does not absorb your body heat, then it's real. Also, a genuine stone will have inclusions/imperfections which can be seen either with your eye or with a loupe.
Efesgirl, I think there are some air bubbles in the "stone". For that reason I think it's not an amethyst:(
Many thanks for the love:

Oh yes...air bubbles...for me, it doesn't detract from the beauty. :<)))))
Agree, I still find it very interesting, Efesgirl:)
