This looks like a clean hunting/survival knife.
9 inch over-all with a 4 inch blade. The coolest to me is the color of the handle. I've no ide what it was made from. Any thoughts would help me appreciate it more

its laminated wood. exactly the same as used in fancy furniture pcs.
several layers of wood glued together to create that type of look. nice knife !
I believe the knife term is packawood. not sure if I spelled it correctly.
id like to add. this knife has been imported from Germany or japan. iowa cutlery is an import name. its likely imported from edgebrand, Othello, or the guttman co from the 50s and 60s. its called a trapper.
I don't think the sheath is original to the knife.
if you view my listing dated the same as yours, youll see in the 3rd pic, a sheath that would've been correct for the knife.
This knife is not an "Iowa Cutlery" I'm afraid. The blade is stamped J Champion Loma CO. As it turns out it was hand made in Loma Colorado. The sheath is also custom to this very knife and stamped with the original owners initials and the company logo of Champion Cutlery.
All I need now is an accurate appraisal. I've heard anything from $25 to $3000. I would hazard a guess at the lower end. But since the maker reportedly went into seclusion during this time and oy made a handful of blades at the time, I am still curious. Once I get as much info as I can the knife is going to a friend that I know will give it the care it deserves.

im really sorry for upsetting your post. this knife is probably from the 60s 70s time frame though. the german trappers like this sell for just under 100 in great condition. id say yours is probably in that price range, but then, based on my ridiculous replies already, I wouldn't take my word for it.
You have a similar valuation on this thing . My guess was close to $50. But I have followed the strangest threads the keep me unsure about the owner. But in the end I met y'all and this site. Lots of real conversation about great items. I will enjoy being a member
Italy also made this type of knife, fwiw... they used the edge brand and gc co. sheaths like in that pic. I cant recall what colors they used , but identical to yours.
