I purchased these at a garage sale the other day. the box had a note in it as posted in photo 4. they are made of roots , cloth and other materials. they are all 10 to 12 inches tall. so i am wondering time frame they where made , and if they look Peruvian. really cool but kind of creepy looking at the same time
Because these were used as burial dolls few have survived . it is hard to date them because reproductions are being made from old textiles found in the desert . I wish I could be sure of age for you but we had a few of these dolls at museum I worked at and they kind of made me uncomfortable that they were taken from graves . They have a very interesting history for sure
i've seen a lot of these. many of them did survive due to the dry climate in much of the area of Peru where they're from. These do look authentic to me, although i'm not an expert. At least some of the cloth in these is authentic, if not all of them.
