I haven't the faintest idea what kind of material that is...I couldn't even guess at it. I also have not one idea how they were made. The wire is just a base metal of some sort. They are very light. I have to change the hooks to silver so I can wear them.
I can hardly wait to read the Comments...lol!

      Hello Efesgirl
I never have seen some earrings like this one.
I hope someone knows more about this.

I really think these are pretty Bonnie!!
They remind me of using one of those kitchen gadgets to make curly lengths of vegetables........lol !! that's the best I can do...........

LOL Judy, I never thought about that, but you're right!!

These are awesome!!! I haven't seen this design before. It looks like mica at first glance, but I don't think it can be twisted. In the 60s, Germany and maybe Austria and Japan, too used very thin slivers of (I want to say acetate? off the top of my head, don't quote me on that) to make very fragile flower earrings in various color - I doubt there are many left around, but that's what your may be made of. I would also look into plique-a-jour enamel (metal "framing" supports that hypothesis). So probably one of the too , unless they are very new and it's a new material/technique that has not become common yet. Keep us posted and congrats on the great find!

Quite intriguing... As Davyd, I think acetate or a kind of plastic, plique à jour comes to mind too, but the twisted design question about the making!
There is no evidence of the metal twist being dipped in the liquid or melted material... traces would remain on metal...
Great mystery and so nice design!

I've added two different photos. It is a real mystery, my friends! Thank you, kyra and davy, for your interesting input. I will see if I can find anything based on your info.

I think it's an epoxy resin, and made by dipping the wire rings in it. It collects on the rings like a soap bubble would. There is residue on the top, you can see it in the first picture, magnified. My guess anyway! :^) Nice earrings though, Bonnie, good find!

      very curious find indeed!

bill - hmmm, that is an interesting thought! The stuff in question is quite thin, almost like rice paper. In fact, that is what it reminded me of when I first saw the earrings.

Epoxy would actually make sense if it's thick enough not to drip (I don't know much about that medium but hear it's becoming quite popular).

davyd - I watched someone make a resin pendant, and the resin is quite thick. The stuff on the earrings is thin and translucent. I'm still doing some research. No wonder I'm awake at night, lol!
