Two pieces. The small end of the smaller piece has a small loop on it. If you attached it to something, the smaller beaded square would be pulled into the larger one and stay securely in there. Or vice versa. Not sure which way the little loop goes. I have NO idea what this could be.

Overall size 5 inches. 2 inches wide.

If the small loop goes into the larger piece, the little square keeps it secure. I have it where the little loop is the OTHER way, like of you hung something on the little loop, that THING you hung on the loop would be pulled into the larger square.

I have always seen these as key holders usually in leather...... the keys go on the small loop as you say and get pulled inside the larger piece!!

Doesn't make any sense to me, as it appears to be useless no matter which way you thread it together. Incomplete, perhaps?

I have no clue! The little square is double sided, also opens. I thought about keys, but you'd have to have an additional thing to loop through your keys & on to the beaded loop. You could only have one or two keys on it, but they would be kept quiet in your pocket or purse..

I think you are right about it being a key holder/silencer

This leather one is from Russia - which kind of make sense, mine was bought at a Russian person's estate sale. But mine has no way to keep the keys inside, once you pull them in the larger square. This one (below) has a snap.
