Some pieces you own give you a wow moment every time you see them; this is one of mine.

It is so incredibly alive. Modernist in a very Japanese way.
This vase demonstrates the design freedom allowed glass artists at Kurata, their fresh eye, and their great skill. It looks simple but I can see so many job sequences to finish this work.

It pushes every right button for me!

Oh my, it looks so 3D, Karen! As if they put bands of Xmas ribbon around it, then added twisted, gauzy fabric. Head turning indeed!

Very pictorial (if it is a good word).Reminds an abstract painting.

Thanks Peggy. I love that the white "ribbon" has been added after the gold and mica(?) sheets. I don't know how they did that - I always thought metal sheets had to be last and not overheated. Learning again :)

Martika I'm glad it has wowed you - thanks!

JB you too, many thanks. Japanese glass, particularly the later stuff, is uncommon but worth the find.

Thanks Inky. The Japanese love orange and luckily I do too!

So right Mike! It does look like broad paint brush strokes. Thanks for the description and love.

So beautifully vibrant but still manages to stay zen at the same time. What a piece!

Another great piece of your Japanese glass Karen! What I love about them is that they're never boring... they either have wonderful colors or beautiful decoration or fantastic shapes, and more often than not, all three!

Definitely not boring Karen :-) The funny thing is I've tried to search for Japanese vases on auction sites and also eBay, but I can't find anything like yours.
