Dining was always an elegant affair on a train. In the 1950's one was able to get a pot of tea for 25 - 35 cents. I am a tea drinker and I love railroad dining car china so when I get a chance to recreate a tea set from a favorite railroad I will jump on it. The Erie china dates from the 1950's. The elegant B&O china was used between 1927 and 1971. The last pattern shown was Amtrak's first pattern, the National Pattern, which was made exclusively for Amtrak and used from 1973 - 1981. I use my china and silverware on certain occasions, such as when visitors drop by, my Sunday meal or just when I am in the mood. Everything seems to taste better when served on dining car china. By the way, I DON'T know if the B&O tea would taste better. I'm not going to try tea from a 50 year old tea bag to find out!
