I had a feeling this afternoon that I should go look in the thrift shops. I got there in plenty of time to grab this chain with the pendant from the cheap-o costume jewelry display. Has the oak leaf stamp from Waarborg, where the gold registry office of the Netherlands is located.
This is the second gold chain with a costume cross I have found in that shop. The first is that nearly 3 foot long 14K white gold rope necklace I posted last month. That one had a red copper and enamel cross hanging from it.
    Gram weight is 2.66.

    :-))))))))

    Thanks for stopping by!

Nice necklace, from the colour I thought it was going to be a higher grade gold, saying that what a bargain well done. I've said it before, I'm going to come and visit you in Netherlands, lol.

Lol, I was hoping you could give me some tips. I'm hoping to go to the Antique and Collectors fair at Newark Nottingham U.K. In June next year. It's apparently the largest In Europe, I'm sure I'll need lots of dosh for that.

Jean - when you pick up a chain, look at the links closest to the clasp. The same with a bracelet. Earrings are sometimes marked only on the posts. If the necklace has an "extension" of the chain, also look on the last links there. I have posted here a lovely Art Nouveau/Deco silver necklace which has the marks on one of the last links of the "extra" part of the chain.
With rings, look the band over very carefully. Also look inside the ring mount - sometimes the marks are there. Egyptian rings tend to have marks on the side of the mount rather than on the band.
Try not to look obvious while doing all that......LOL!!!

With brooches, look on the pin itself. I have a friend who bought a gorgeous 18k (750) brooch with sapphires for 2 Euro. The only marks were found on the pin. Tested as 100% gold.
