I really am directionless with this vase. I am sure it is Japanese - apart from the fact it came from Japan, the shape is a Japanese one and the techniques used are very Japanese.

The black glass ground is in fact an intense cobalt that has had some small millefiore scattered randomly through it. There has also been some random glass trail applied before the pattern of silver and gold sheets have been laid down. The result is a decor that initially looks quite simple but shows complexity when studied closely.

I don't know which studio has made this vase. Despite it's familiar techniques the decor is not one I have seen before, so have no idea who was the creator.

This is gorgeous Karen...I could look at your vases all day here.......just can't have them!!
I had to smile to myself when Scott(with the trunks) said he had started to check out glass after seeing your beautiful pieces.....but would not buy any!!! Happens to all of us I think!Lol :)

So beautiful! It's very Japanese indeed to scatter small contrasting details like these millefiori. Sometimes when one looks at those apparently very simple pieces there is a feeling of balance and perfection and one doesn't even exactly know why, but it's all in the details.

Judy it would weigh us down, collecting everything. It's great we get to see so many different things here isn't it!! Thanks for the appreciation.

Nailed it there Bijou. I like how the Japanese can also do things that appear entirely random but prove to be very planned and perfectly balanced.
Thanks for the insight and love.

At first sight the colour palette seems austere but in close up the vase is both luxuriant and intriguing. Must be among you best......

Fabulous vase Karen love the geometric gold flecked pieces mixing with naturalistic millefiori in a delicate restraint-ant manner

Kivatinitz we don't need to have knowledge, just appreciation, and I thank you for yours.

It has had to grow on me Peggy lol. Initially it had a bit of a department store feel to me but I have grown to appreciate it's complexities over the last few months.
Of course, you saw it's features immediately! Thanks :)

It is a very Japanese creation Malkey - they have their own ways....
      Thanks for the appreciation.

Very Japanese. The more you look at it, the more it defies description. At least from my inexpert view, this is a masterpiece.

Thank you, Karen, for teaching me how to appreciate Japanese glass.

Thanks for the thanks - just spreading the love of Japanese glass.
It's a lovely, subtle piece; glad you like it!

Very nice - some of it (just a bit) reminds me of American artist Randy Strong's "Orion" series... but not the millefiori. Cheers! - Bob

I looked up Randy Strong and Orion and I can see where you are coming from Bob. Even his shapes are a bit Japanoise. Lovely works.
Thanks for the comment and love!

Very Stunning karen......Could it be Murano? There was a maker I once mentioned to you before ( lesser known name ) that did some ( what I thought were ) Murano art glass that appeared to have some Japanese influence. Do you remember the name Karen? We talked about it before in one of your posts....I think the name started with a *R*
    20. antiquerose antiquerose, 8 years ago
I remember the name now it was Giulio Radi for Avem. Not saying this is his piece at all but I JUST found some of his work to be Japanese influence in my opinion.

I have no idea, but it looks to be a quality piece top, and Bottom!!

@Rick - Hey Buddy, do you have any insight to this Vase or Murano?? Thanks, just wondering your opinion there. Again Thanks
    22. racer4four racer4four, 8 years ago
Rose I have seen Radi's work before and yes, there are some similarities with some Japanese glass.
I am still certain this is Japanese!
