Hi her face is not China it looks like ceramic or paper mache and her face painting looks like it was re painted but my instinct says she is a reproduction of a "Low Brow China doll" made in a doll making class and her clothes are homemade . She is a treasure to have from you Great Grandmother and I am not sure what war you referring to WWII in 40's women were making dolls in class's . I need to see more of body to decide but by end f 30's and a few into 40's they were no longer making china dolls . She has no glaze to her like a china doll and painting is not what I expect to see on a factory doll . I would treasure her either way :-) If you want to add her nude I can tell more .
Which war, I or II?
My grandmother gave her to me.. it was my great grandmother.. she has never been touched or repaired or painted.. ww1 my great grandfather gave it to her when he returned.. she is China.. I had it checked.. the clothes she is wearing are original
You need to give a date. My grandmother was born in 1898...
We don't know your age to estimate. You need to show the back of her head where a mark may be. Are the clothes sewn on?
I agree, she looks like she's made of papier mache. There's no high glaze to her, therefore it isn't china. Possible repaint or more than likely a reproduction. Is the shoulder plate fully intact? Studying the shoulder plate and photographing the doll without the clothing would assist in identification.
Thanks Chinaheads for jumping in . Notice painting on one eyebrows that shouts repaint one of them is just so wrong. No red line and lips are just to red and no sign of wear . Her arms are porcelain and appear newer .
Poster who told you she was china ? She is a repaint or reproduction . Please post a nude photo of her ok lori.
Here is a original low brow china to see what they look like
