I found this vase at an antique store in town, I was not looking for anything in particular, in fact I wasn't looking to purchase anything at all, just curious to see what they had. For some reason this vase spoke to me, I did not know anything about it just that it wanted to come home with me, I do not remember how much I paid for it, only that it was very inexpensive. So this is the beginning of my obsession with art glass, I don't know why but this vase tripped something in me and now I cannot get enough. I am really not sue if it is Murano or a Murano knock off, but with everything I have learned about glass in the years following this purchase I believe that it just may be the real thing. any input would be greatly appreciated though !
Gorgeous colours!
I have a very similar one. I love it too but I took it off the site. I found out that it was made in China some time ago and sold in Peer 1 stores. Even though I don't consider it a "collector piece" I am keeping it because everyone coming to my house makes a comment how beautiful it is. How big is yours? Mine is over one foot.
Mine is 11 1/2" at it's highest point, and it has a fairly large polished pontil on the bottom. I have seen several similar variations to this vase online and that is why I cannot be completely sure of where it came from. However if you look at the different styles there are differences in the bases and in particular the way petal of the flower is curled up under the flower. So far I have only noted this base and that curl to be associated with the style labeled Murano. But like I said I cannot be sure. Thank you for the information as I did not know they had been sold at Pier One.
