    (71 items)

Check these out! All are approximately 12.5 x 9.5 inches. All painted on different thicknesses of 'construction' paper. The blue paper being the thickest. Each is signed by a different artists, but as you can tell- they are likely from the same tribe.

The blue paper one is hunting a gazelle, the pink paper is the gazelle getting ready to be skinned? (or cooked!) in the village and the orange paper (the thinnest paper) is hunting an ostrich? (a big bird, anyway!)

A very modernistic take on tribal art, don't you think?! I'm thinking 1960's.

(Does anyone else think the categories for listing SUCK as much as I do? Where is African art??)

I found out they are from the Congo! Someone had posted some on line, and notated where they had purchased them from in the 1950's.

Oh wow - there was an exhibit of these in the UIS in the 50's. From Belgian Congo.

Wow. Some people ask crazy prices. But here's MORE info!

"Has an abstract primitive feeling, so typical of the 1950's and is an excellent example of the work that began to come out of the Belgian Congo at that time. Work is in gouache on artist's paper and signed "tkoun Pa". Measures 9-5/8" X 12-5/8" mounted on board measures 11 X 14.
The Belgian Congo was a Belgian Colony in Central Africa between 1908-1960 in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Matadi is a chief sea port and the capital of the Bas-Congo province."

FROM ANOTHER LISTING: The work has an abstract primitivist feeling, so typical of the 1950's and is an excellent example of the work that began to come out of the Kinshasa school in the Belgian Congo at that time. Such works were exhibited in Europe and the US.
