I found this antique Japan earthenware vase at my local thrift store. It has a crude construction, with a prominent seam dividing the top and bottom, and an intense lean. It features enamel painted flowers, branches and flying insects. It is heavily crazed, and there is a small amount of wear on the enamel. It has some various colors of wax lining the interior base, so it must have been previously used as a candle holder.
Although it has a crude appearance it is still charming. Unfortunately being a porous earthenware, there is a stain from the thrift store pricing on the bottom.
It is unmarked by an artist.

Hi Ralph, another great find same maker as your last vase or in the style of. 1890 give or take 10yr. I can't tell how tall it is maybe a brush holder . But it is designed as a piece of bamboo hence the seam and the lean it has. I need to visit your thrift-stores you are finding some nice pieces.

Grendel67, it does look like a piece of bamboo, now that you mention it. I guess all the various colors staining the interior base, must be dyes and not candle wax like I peeled from the edges.
