Anyone know what year this was produced? SN SJ08#### on left rear dropout.
This old Schwinn's been hanging in my basement for three years. Decided to have some fun. With the exception of the brakes (original to the Schwinn), the rest of the groupset are a take-off of my Bianchi road bike. The wheel set are a take-off of a Giant from a local cycle chop. Got 'me cheap. The CHALLENGE was modding it from 27" original steel wheels to the 700's. Contemporary brakes are side pull and are too short (700 wheels are shorter than 27"-ers), the cable stops on the bike are set up for center pull. So had to use the original brakes (cycle shop ran them through a new ultrasonic parts cleaner/buffer - like new!). The Schwinn was blue originally, but with a LOT of elbow grease, skinned knuckles, stripper, sand paper and a drill with a steel brush, it's back down to virgin steel. Going to buff it up one more time and clear coat it next spring. This was supposed to be my "junker" that I could ride, lock up on the streets and not worry if anyone stole it. I think I went too far. Don't want this one stolen either! Still better than having my Bianchi ripped-off. I name my bikes, this one's "Pugz" after our pugs, one of them died this year. It's for him.
