My parents have an identical sign which they got hold of some time in the 80s. It is from England - Hammonds was a brewery in West Yorkshire. How yours ended up in Texas is a mystery, however!
It is amazing what you can find in these TX antique shops. I saw a Mig17 next to an authentic British phone booth in the middle of nowhere in South TX.
Anyway, thank you for the info.
I actually have the same sign. I got mine at an auction in Jefferson WI about 8 years ago. It was from a well known beer distributor in Milwaukee one of the best finds. I bought it for $10.00. Honestly. When I did research on it there is another one in a bar in Colorado, but thats the only other one besides yours that I have seen. And all in the U.S.
I also have one in Oak Ridge TN. I bought it 35 years ago at Charles and Charles Wholesale Antiques in West Los Angeles. They had about twenty of them. I picked the best one I could find. I believe they were about twenty dollars.
It is indeed from West Yorkshire, UK. My father worked at their Lockwwod Brewery (see link https://www.yorkshirenostalgia.co.uk/general-items/brewing-in-yorkshire-2/hammonds-brewery-bradford/ ) from the early 1950s until the mid 1970s. Although brewing ceased in 1962, you could still smell the hops and yeast well after he retired. Just a shame I was too young to sample their wares!
I hope some of you still have your signs, I can still remember seeing them locally as a child.
I am sitting in Triple Rock Brewery in Berkeley, California, where there is a maroon Hammonds Ales on the wall. I would be happy to post a photo but I don't know how. Cheers
