Anyone familiar with this very large platter 35 cms diameter and 4 cms high? Unfortunately backstamp covered with plate-hanger. Love the pattern - looks like spongeware - Dutch or Scottish perhaps? Looks like wheel-thrown pottery from the circles on reverse. Also has three points on front where rested in the kiln.

If you remove that disc hanger (1980s version), you may find marks underneath it. (You can order a new disc hanger, if desired.) I live in the Netherlands and have never seen pottery like that over here.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately the plate hanger is affixed so firmly I am not confident I can remove it all - but perhaps I may have to try! Cheers, Carol

Soak it in hot water and dish soap. It should slowly but surely come off. :-))))

After soaking, any glue residue can be removed with liquid lighter fuel on a a cotton ball

      maybe French or Portuguese?

Many thanks for your suggestions maryh1956 - French or Portuguese would make sense .... may try the soaking and lighter fuel suggestions.
