This is another Welz thorn vase, quite thick walled with a well defined hexagonal rim. As is usual with Welz, the thorns are pulled out of the thickest part of the hexagonal body.
Again the body is extra long to allow the formation of a loop. There are other examples of this......image four.
The body is clear cased and sits on a base of three large clear leaves. This is my only example of a leafed foot on a thorn vase.
Height 20 cm./8 inches
They are so funny with their playful twisted "tails" but I think the makers were more serious and thought about showing organic shapes rather :)
Ivonne, I too think the makers were serious. I also think that any style/shape that is still to be found fairly frequently, a hundred plus years later, must have been quite popular.
you know I had never saw one in life....
Kivatinitz, I think that is probably a matter of geography. Welz shipped a lot of glass into the UK in the late 19th century and it turns up in charity shops, on ebay etc. Perhaps the company didn't ship much to South America......
Thanks a bunch to all who looked and clicked. As always you are appreciated.
